North Carolina has become a favorite travel destination in recent years, and the Asheville area in the western part of the state gets a lot of attention. It’s easy to see why. Asheville has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants, interesting architecture, and shopping. There is also a booming art scene where you can easily find a new treasure. We especially love Tessa Lang’s paintings available at Wedge Studios. Outside of Asheville, we recommend visiting the Gilded Age-era Biltmore Estate, which was built by George Washington Vanderbilt II. We also recommend taking a drive through the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway and taking in the gorgeous scenery.
Wilmington is a great choice for a spring break trip if you love spending time near the ocean but don’t want to shell out big bucks for a trip to Mexico. This port city offers a great selection of restaurants and art galleries – and a great selection of beaches are just a hop, skip, and a jump away. If you are a history buff and have a soft spot for WWII, we recommend checking out the moored Battleship North Carolina, which contains exhibits related to its time of service in the Pacific Theatre.
There is nothing wrong with a staycation right here in our home city! During your spring break in Raleigh, take some time to re-explore the places you have not been to in a while – such as the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the North Carolina Museum of History, or the Marbles Kids Museum. Or find new restaurants to try out and discover a new favorite food! NC State and the other universities in the city and area regularly host events that are open to the public, so there is definitely something for you to enjoy!
