Optional on all but the base Sports model is a 3.2-liter V6 that delivers 271 horsepower and 239 pounds of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines.
You have your choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with either engine, but Trailhawk models are 4-WD only (and really designed with the off-road lover in mind).
Jeep offers two different 4WD systems. Standard on four-wheel-drive Sport, Latitude and Limited models is the light-duty Active Drive I 4WD system – a system that requires no input from the driver and is suitable for driving in wintry conditions.

In addition, four-wheel-drive Cherokees feature a Selec-Terrain dial with selectable Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud modes to optimize traction. The Trailhawk features an additional Rock mode. And hill-start assist is standard on all Cherokees.
When it comes to fuel economy, the Cherokee’s 2014 EPA-rating ranges from 25 mpg combined (22 city/31 highway) with the V8 package (comparable to recent used models) to 22 mpg combined (19/28) for the V6 version.
